The term "Psychiatry" was coined by Doctor J.C. Reil from Germany in 1808. PSYCHIATRY is a science that studies and treats mental illnesses. Many mental disorders are treated by a psychiatrist. Mental health professionals work around the globe. Psychiatrists help mentally ill people to come out of depression, treat insomnia etc. There are a great many mental disorders and phobias that require specialist medical treatment. Sleep disorders, anxiety disorders, panic disorders, abnormally high pressure moods, various personality disorders etc are some of the common mental disorders. ANOREXIA is a common mental disorder, in particular in young women. It begins when a person starves deliberately or eats less to become slimmer. However, starving brings on a compete loss of appetite and disastrous health problems, such as infertility in women. Schizophrenia is another severe mental illness. It has been studied by psychiatrists for ages. It is an abnormal perception of reality badly impacting on all five senses. Hallucinations, abnormal speech, unarranged thinking pattern, paranoia are typical of schizophrenic patients. Schizophrenics normally suffer from major depressions and anxiety disorders. People with schizophrenia live less than mentally healthy people. One of the reasons is a high suicidal rate among patients suffering from the disorder. Although it is not passed from a parent to a child, Schizophrenia is recorded to affect family members. Substance abuse, including hard drugs, alcohol, is a common problem that requires specialist aid. Social problems, for example unemployment, poor living conditions and homelessness, are often recorded, too. Psychiatry treats mental illnesses that are brought on chemical imbalances in the brain. The way people think, their beliefs, their culture and experience, life situations and many other things mould their psyche that might be seriously challenged because of circumstances. A professional is to renew the affected balance through a specialist aid and prescription medicine. It requires a lot of effort and time to recover. However, emotional traumas originated from childhood are difficult to treat.
